Meet The Gang
We aim to inform Sheffield folk about everything DIY, from what events are coming up to the relevance of these spaces in our current social and political climate. Our hope is that we can increase support and funding for such venues. If you feel like any this appeals to you, or that you lack somewhere to call home, we've got you!
Munira
Hi! My name is Munira and I am a student journalist in Sheffield. The DIY community has always felt like my place to be. As a queer woman of colour, the atmosphere at DIY venues has been welcoming- like a real place for the people. My personal favourite venues are Gut Level and the now closed Dina (RIP).
With journalism, an aspiration of mine is to give a voice to people who are usually silenced. So far, I've had a keen interest in the concept of censorship, environmentalism and music. I hope through this creative endeavour of sharing insights into DIY music projects, I can help boost community engagement and find ways to bring people together!
Gabe
Hi I'm Gabe, I've been attending DIY shows in Sheffield for a few years now and the scene has only been continuing to grow in the time I've been here. My favourite venue currently is Delicious Clam due to their constant ability to provide a platform to new and exciting local bands. I'm a massive fan of the hardcore scene in Sheffield and try to get myself down to shows whenever possible. Coming from the Lake District where venues are few and far between, it's refreshing to see somewhere so progressive!
Eve
How do, I'm Eve and just like the rest of the team, I'm finishing up my undergraduate in multimedia journalism. I feel like it's only right that I start this by saying I've never been to a DIY event of any kind (I deeply apologise). I am, however, very proud of these spaces and all that they do for marginalised groups and the Sheffield community. I also really respect Gabe and Munira's love for the website and DIY venues as a result. So I will do everything I can to support their vision and provide you guys with the best content possible!
